Tim Burton Talks About Why He Is Hesitant to Use The Internet And How People Consider Him To Be A ‘Technophobe’

If you are familiar with Tim Burton, he is not one to really venture out on the web. The man himself does not use the internet.

Ahead of the opening of his new The World of Tim Burton exhibition in London, the famous movie producer, Mr. Burton disclosed to BBC News that ‘Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a bit of a technophobe’.

Where this is barely a noteworthy point for others, Mr. Burton feels towards the web in a more cautionary manner, when he said, ‘the moment I look at the internet, I get quite depressed. it frightened me because I started to go down a particular like dark hole; so it was like I was tormented. It doesn’t have a positive impact on me so I tend to look away from it (the internet)’.

Even more so he admitted concerning his mental health ‘I do get depressed really quickly; I mean, perhaps much more quickly than other people. But still, if I need a click, if I push a button, it doesn’t take me much to click it and lose it and go haywire.’

It’s pretty safe to assume that the maker of such films as: Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Wednesday, Corpse Bride, Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Batman does not peruse the internet for entertainment or ideas as according to The Hollywood Reporter timely did.

Also, when he is not working, Burton told the outlet that he enjoys doing nothing, such as watching the clouds. In addition, according to the publication, he also enjoys his collection of 10 giant dinosaur models that are located in his backyard. It would be remiss not to note that one of the technological innovations that the filmmaker had previously mentioned his disinterest in was artificial intelligence.

With regard to this, for example, last year he responded to a story on BuzzFeed in which an AI was used to illustrate Disney movies had they been directed by Burton as The Independent has reported him saying: ‘It’s hard to explain the feeling it gives you.

It made me feel like when other cultures say ‘Do not photograph me, you are taking my spirit away.’ These were pretty good things… claimed the director. However, he also said ‘Yes, some of the works were ‘very good’ what it does is it sucks something from you. It takes something from your soul or psyche which is very disturbing especially if it is about you. Imagine a robot snatching your humanity and your soul.'
